Magnetic Field Coils In Electrical Machines

Magnetic field coils are typical components of motors that make use of electromagnets. Their purpose is to produce a constant feed of forces induced by and electric current. Coils are made of a looped wire in a spiral shape. Some have metal cores running through their centres in order to generate stronger forces on the inside of the loop.

If the current is disabled so the field force drops to zero and is of no use. The pattern of the field runs through the center and is its most strongest in the middle. It creates an invisible shape of almost uniform parallel lines. On the outside of the coil the forces are considerably weaker and of next to no use.

Examples of products that make use of electromagnets are motors, generators and loudspeakers. In the motor car industry the component used is called a solenoid. It forms part of the starter motor that gets your car started when you turn the key to the on position.

Solenoids are helix shaped and resemble a spiral stairwell. In order to generate larger force fields within the solenoid metals that are ferromagnetic can be used. They are termed as such because of their inherent ability to be magnetized.

Soft iron is one type of ferromagnetic material. The properties of materials such a ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic cause them to be affected by magnetism with positive results. They are materials that are easily attracted by magnets.

In order to make the force effect of the wound spiral like metal stronger, these metals are passed through the core or center to enhance the quality and strength of the electromagnet. Electricity or current running through any piece of conductive material produces these unseen forces. A component such as these produces two poles, a positive pole and its equivalent negative pole.

A current must be running through the unit in order for it to work and produce a magnetic effect. As soon as the current is switched off so too does the force field cease to exist.

Solenoids found in the motor car industry are one of the components in the engine that make use of this technology. When the ignition key of any vehicle is turned to the on position, an electric current is generated from the battery and feeds a current through the solenoid.

Another device that uses the inherent qualities of magnetism is the starter motor in an automobile. The 12V batter provides the electric current which passes through a coil as part of the process in starting up the engine. This device is called a solenoid and uses its electromagnetic energy to run various functions for the working parts of the engine such as switches and relays.

magnetic field coils have been in existence for quite some time. As early as the 1800s ways of developing and adapting this fundamental quality of magnetism have been fine tuned to allow people to make use of appliances we have in our lives today.

Easy Steps To Follow To Create Magnetic Coils

Strings that are twisted together form magnetic coils. It's easy to make one of your own at home using supplies found at local stores. With a few simple steps to follow you can create your own field of magnets.

The core that is inside the magnet is made of anything containing iron. It would be best if the shape of it was cylinder but anything would work fine. The iron in the magnet is what will be used to amplify the magnetic field.

Electronic coils that are in turned circuits sometimes use a thing called air core. What you can do to mimic that is to wrap a thin piece of paper around the shape of your coil and make sure to not place anything in the middle of it. It should be free of materials. Using the above strategy does not apply the greatest result.

Your magnet will be really strong if you leave few spaces left between the wires. When coiling the wire it is best to use a twenty two gauge wire that has single strands. Also leave at least six inches of wire hanging from your coil. This will be needed when you want to use it later.

The next step is to secure the coil to the outside the core. This can be done using glue or tape. Then cut the wire that is left hanging from the spool. The idea is to have two wires hanging off each end. So when cutting leave another six inches available on the other side.

Stripping the wires of its coat that is to protect them is the next step. The enamel can be burned off using any match or lighter. You would need to wait for it to cool down and then rub it with some type of clean cloth.

Your magnet is all finished. Finding a power source to activate the magnet is the final step. You can use an old lantern and place the stripped ends of the wire to the battery under where the coils are. It should work. It should be able to pick up small ferromagnetic coils.

Some people like to know where the direction of electric current flows. There is a test that can be performed using your hands. Your right hand should have the coil in it and then wherever your thumb points that the flow of current. It's called the right hand rule.

Manufactures use this type of coil to create all kinds of equipment. The motors in the cars and generators use a form of the magnet. You can also find it in the hospitals inside of MRI machines. And the huge machines use it to pick up scrap iron.

As you see this utensil is used in everything that you can think of in our world today. Even in hospitals were it is needed for someone else to survive. It's not difficult to make magnetic coils on your own in your home. It's actually fairly easy if you follow the steps outlined and using the equipment that is needed. Make one with your children it can be a fun process for them.

A spinning wheel is a basic necessity in the spinning industry. It helps in the separation of natural or man-made fibers and production of yarn. It was invented in India between 500 and 1000 A.D. Later, many developments have been made and this has helped replacing the hand twisting method with a spindle.These frames are seen as catalysts in today's textile industries.There are various types of the yarn twisting wheels.

Walking and wool models that are known for rapid long-draw spinning of woolen-spun yarns, Flax which is a double-drive used with a distaff for working on linen. Others are Saxony and upright models, all-purpose treadle driven types used to spin worsted-spun yarns and the charkha which are common in Asia. Thy are specific in use.How do they operate? The Charkha is small, portable, hand-cranked and is ideal for twisting cotton and short stapled fibers.

Flyer and Bobbin Spinning Wheels


It's manually turned and the yarn is spun off the tip of the spindle. The one that goes by the name of 'great' is over five feet in height. It turns the much smaller spindle assembly and the spindle rotates several for each twist of the drive. 'Great' and 'charkha' resemble each other.The Flax category of these machines work like double ones. The double drive is named after it's drive band because it twists twice.

There is single drive which has one drive band. These drive bands for single frame are made from synthetic cord which is elastic and does not trip easily on the frame.
Modern models use flayer-and-bobbin system which twists the yarn and winds it onto a reel at a go. You can use single or double-treadle wheel. There are modern spinning techniques like having automatic means to rotate the spindle and drawing out the fibers.

Great Wheel

The most commonly known version of the spindle wheel, is the Great Wheel. The spindle wheel played a very important role in the development of spinning for several years.It was designed specifically as a devise to rotate the spindle, which had been previously been done by hand.

Spindle wheels were used to spin fine fibers, like cotton and silk, into thin thread and yarn. Wyatt Wheels currently manufactures Great Wheels.The common spinning (flyer) wheel styles are classified as; saxony wheels, castle wheels, norwegian wheels or modern wheels.


Saxony Wheels

When most people think of spinning wheels, the saxony style is the most familiar. It is often referred to as the "Cinderella" wheel. The elements of a saxony wheel are arranged horizontally, with a large wheel at one end and the flyer at the other, and normally have three legs. The Ashford Traditional and Elizabeth wheels are good examples of saxony wheels.


Castle Wheels

The component parts of a castle wheel are stacked vertically with the flyer being positioned above the wheel. Good examples are the Ashford Traveller, and Majacraft wheels.


Norwegian Wheels

The norwegian wheel looks similar to the saxony wheel. It usually has a large wheel and four legs, and a horizontal bench. Kromski manufactures a Norwegian style wheel.


Modern Wheels

The modern wheels take advantage of technology for enhancing performance and have a more advant-garde appearance. Examples of modern wheels are Louet wheels and the Ashford Joy.


The Charkha wheel

The Charkha wheel gained popularity in India, by Mahatma Gandhi, because of its practical use for spinning cotton, and its portrayal of economic independence. It is still being used in parts of India today.

The box style is one variation of the Charkha wheel. It is small, very compact, and it folds up into a box that can be easily transported. The method used for spinning on a Charkha wheel is similar to spinning on the Great Wheel.

The spinner sits on the ground and rotates the wheel with one hand while drafting the fiber with the other hand. The Charkha wheel is ideal for spinning very fine fibers like cotton, silk, angora, and cashmere.
